Hi Dave,
My advise would be to firstly visit your local Dive shop, they will most certainly have some kind of club or loose organisation of like minded divers who I am sure you will be able to get a few dives in with. If you are not club orientated you could try some of the buddy sites like and advertise on the find a buddy site. Another good suggestion as has been previously mentioned is to go to your local swimming pool and see if they have a dive club who meet there (usually you will see an advert on the notice board). Lastly look up some dive charter operators in your area and make a booking. They will pair you up with suitable buddy or 2 whenever possible.
You don't say where your from, but you will find that there is always somewhere to go diving..
My advise on your kit is to buy it a bit at a time. Buy the best you can afford and start with your own Regs & Watch / Computer. You will find that you can hire good quality kit from your local dive shop.
Good luck, and if you ever need a buddy in the SE drop me a line, I would be glad to help out if I can.

Hi. I would suggest wandering down to your nearest swimming pool. They'll have some details of local clubs up in reception, hopefully some diving clubs. You may get lucky and find a pool that hosts a diving clubs swimming sessions. (Most clubs meet during the week for social and swimming, with a little pool training thrown in too). This way, you meet people socially, get to have a fun swim and try the clubs gear out, which you may be able to use for weekend diving for free (depends). These are the times that club topics are discussed also, like diving at weekends and subscriptions etc. Another good place to try looking is in the classified ads of diving magazines, like DIVER. There are listings of clubs, with phone numbers of people to contact. I wouldn't worry about the extra training too much, but padi may insist you take a dry suit diving course. Personally, I think that's a waste of money (about £99.00), but if that's the way it goes... Above all enjoy the club and get involved with all aspects. They are a great way to meet people, indeed, my brother met his now wife at a club!!

The best way would be to join a local Club. If your PADI training was abroad, you might find diving in the UK a lot different. Joining a club would give you access to other divers in your area and, perhaps, the use of club equipment. You might need to go through some additional training, though, to cover items not previously undertaken.

Firstly make sure your PADI Certificates are up to sratch, holiday tuition isnt always as thorough as a full UK ased course.

Find your Local dive shop, he will have all he equipment you'll need for hire.

He will also have details of local pools who run indoor dive sessions always a good place to meet fellow enthusiasts

Chances are the dive shop will run trips and excursions to local wrecks or inland dive sites

Hope this helps
