But still the SDI Instructor Course is a good course and instructors that are build in the SDI system seem to know what they are doing.

so how the SDI IDC course goes? Well, this are some of the objectives / Requirements 

  •  
    • successfully market scuba
    • Properly teach and design academic and in water sessions
    • Effectively utilize assistants.
    • Preparing and teaching academic sessions
    • knowledge of subject matter
    • Pool/confined water lessons
    • Open water lessons
    • Emergency management abilities
    • Be at least 18 Years Old
    • Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
    • Have a current medical examination for diving
    • 100 logged dives
    • B a certified SDI Divemaster or Assistant Instructor
    • Be qualified as a Oxygen Provider
    • Have a current CPR and 1st Aid certification
    • Internship of 5 open water classes, 1 rescue, 1 specialty as divemaster
    • Crossover for Instructors from PADI, SSI, NAUI available to able to teach the SDI system
    • Materials: SDI Open Water Instructor Manual

    • As you can see at first glance it looks pretty much like any PADI IDC or Even the SSI Instructor course, but one of the things I like is the fact that SDI instructors need to do an internship, so at least they get some experience of teaching. PADI and SSI lack in this field.

During this course you will be challenged and learn what it is like to work with divers as they experience the underwater world for the first time and you will learn how to lead already certified divers and show them some of your favorite critters or dive sites. Your SDI Instructor will also teach you how to manage divers, work the dive deck of a boat, and conducting safe and enjoyable dives. Other things you can expect to learn is diving Physics and Physiology, and being a professional SDI Divemaster. Your skills will be refined to demonstration quality and your knowledge increased to that of a professional. After you have completed the SDI Divemaster course you can move onto the SDI Assistant Instructor Course where you will learn more about academic presentations and have the ability to teach certain SDI specialties.

One of SDI’s most popular courses, the solo diver program teaches experienced recreational divers how to safely dive independent of reliance on their dive buddy.

The course stresses the proper dive planning, accident prevention, the benefits/hazards, and proper procedures for diving solo. Students are encouraged to become self reliant and more able to safely undertake recreational no decompression diving.

The SDI Solo Diver program is well suited to underwater photographers and videographers as a well as any Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor.

The SDI Advanced Adventure Diver Program has been created to allow Open Water Divers to experience a range of diving activities under the direct supervision of a SDI Open Water Instructor. The diver completes dives from any 5 of the non-overhead SDI Specialties.

SDI advanced diver development

The SDI Advanced Diver Development Program was created to make truly “Advanced Divers”. Under the old way of training a student could take an Advanced Course right after an Open Water course and only have a total of nine (9) dives all under the direct training of an instructor. The SDI – Advanced Diver Development program requires a new OW student to take four (4) SDI specialties or equivalent, along with having a total of twenty (25) logged dives. SDI feels a diver will truly be “Advanced” after this is accomplished.
